Welcome! My name is Heather Marker, owner of Mariposa Studio. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. I am a Multi-State Licensed Registered Nurse (RN). I became a pediatric endocrinology nurse in 2011 and have been a Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (CDCES), previously called a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), since December of 2015. I am also a Certified Death Doula and have experience as a hospice RN Case Manager, giving me the unique ability to provide diabetes care and education through all stages of life, from the first breath to the last. I am trained in motivational interviewing and neuroscience, and use these skills to discover how to best educate each person with diabetes.

I specialize in diabetes technology; interpreting insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor (CGM), and glucose meter data and providing recommendations to medical providers for therapeutic insulin or algorithm adjustments based on this data. I hold certificates from the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists in insulin therapy, connected insulin delivery devices and the clinical application of data, and in continuous glucose monitoring.

I have had type 1 diabetes since the age of 8, which is what led to my interest in pediatric endocrinology nursing, and to diabetes education. I have a passion for giving to others what was so graciously given to me by my own diabetes care team growing up, a solid foundation for living well with diabetes.
